Physical and chemical properties of ion exchange resins

The physicochemical properties of ion exchange resins are exchange capacity, expandability, porosity, selectivity, and mechanical strength. When the resin is used to extract gold from the pulp, there are strict requirements on the properties of the resin. The most important one is that the resin should have good insolubility and chemical stability, that is, it is insoluble in an aqueous solution of acid or alkali, so that the resin can be repeated. Used multiple times; the resin should have relatively high mechanical strength, wear resistance and impact resistance. A resin having a small strength is easily broken, thereby increasing resin consumption and loss of gold.
The concept of effective capacity (also called operating capacity) is often used in production, which indicates the amount of effective ions adsorbed by the ion exchange resin per unit mass of air-dried state. When the resin is used repeatedly, the capacity is reduced and it is reduced until the adsorption stops and the ion exchange performance is lost. This is due to the fact that certain ions form a stable complex with the resin or precipitate a poorly soluble compound on the resin.
After the resin is immersed in the solution, the volume thereof is increased by 1.5 to 2.0 times, and the expansion coefficient of the anion exchange resin is in the range of 2.0 to 3.0.
