Recently, the National Non-metallic Mineral Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center announced the results of spot checks on brake pads in the third quarter of 2004. The results show that the quality of brake pads in China has improved significantly compared with previous years.
　　
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) arranged for this supervision and random inspection conducted by the National Non-metallic Mineral Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. A total of 70 batches of products manufactured by 70 companies in 10 provinces and cities including Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangdong and Hubei were investigated. As a result of the inspection, 64 batches were qualified and the sampling pass rate was 91.4%.
Of the enterprises that were spot checked, the qualified rate of the enterprises that have obtained licenses was 92.5%, and the qualified rate of enterprises that had not been licensed was only 66.7%. Experts said that this shows that under the strong push of the country to implement a production license system for brake linings, the overall level of product quality of brake linings in China has been greatly improved. Many small businesses have improved their production facilities and testing methods in order to obtain licenses, improved their quality management systems, and strengthened factory inspections to ensure product quality.
The results of spot checks also showed that the product quality of large and medium-sized enterprises continued to maintain a high level. 13 batches of brake pads for 13 large and medium-sized enterprises were spot-checked. The pass rate was 100%.
The spot check results also show that the implementation of the national supervision and random inspection system has a great role in promoting enterprises to improve product quality. The follow-up spot checks seven batches of seven companies that failed the national supervision and spot checks in 2003, all of which are qualified. Experts believe that this shows that under the supervision of the quality inspection department, the company has improved its quality awareness, strengthened its management, and significantly improved its product quality.
It is reported that this time spot checks the brake lining production enterprises with relatively good product quality, mainly including Hubei Zaoyang Xingya Friction Material Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Hangwan Auto Parts Industry Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Stanney Auto Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd., etc.
